In Friday night's opener, Texas A&M junior, John Stilson struck out a career-best nine batters while walking one and allowing only three hits and one unearned run in his six innings of work.
Saturday, Sophomore Michael Wacha struck out seven, walked none and allowed five hits and no runs in his six inning outing.
Sunday, Sophomore Ross Hales completed the weekend tri-fecta of quality starts, going six innings allowing no runs, two hits, two walks, and striking out five.
Bullpen
The bullpen (Estevan Uriegas, Nick Fleece, Ross Stripling, Joaquin Hinojosa, Dylan Mendoza, Steve Martin, Brandon Parrent and Derrick Hadley) was as dominating as the starters. They combined for seven strike outs, while allowing only two runs on three hits and two walks in nine innings of work.
Offense
The Aggies were lead offensively by junior Matt Juengel and sophomore Tyler Naquin. Juengel drove in seven runs with two homeruns and Naquin drove in four on five hits.
Head Coach
Friday night's victory was Rob Childress 200th career victory, giving him a career coaching recorded of 200-113-1 (.639).
Childress was very pleased with the weekend results.
"I am proud of the way we played this weekend," said Childress. "I thought we played great defense all weekend."
Opponent
The Le Moyne Dolphins were only able to score three runs on 13 hits all weekend. Center fielder Brett Botsford and second baseman Vicent Redmond lead the Dolphins with three hits each. Redmond collect one in each game.
Defense, along with pitching, is supposed to be a strong area for head coach Scott Cassidy's squad. However, some of the fall standouts did not perform so well. Both 3B Ryan Mahoney and 2B Redmond committed two errors a piece.
Jeff Tardiff pitched well Friday night, going six innings allowing one earned run on five hits. Cory Nelson pitched well Saturday. That is until the fifth inning where he allowed four runs and could not get anyone out. He finished with three strike outs, one walk, five runs and seven hits in four innings.
Redshirted sophomore Derek Zilinski did not fare as well, lasting only three and 2/3 innings giving up six earned runs on nine hits and two walks.
The bullpen was hit hard, giving up nine runs on 13 hits in 10 innings of work.
Tuesday night the Aggies are back in action at Olsen Field when they play host to Prairie View A&M (1-0). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
